The underlying narrative throughout my work is an exploration of the natural world, humanity, and environmental issues. Each sculpture reflects these three subjects through the juxtaposition of nature imagery and human centered objects. Animals with planets and books on their head or women dancing on bears are a way of keeping hope and humor alive while addressing issues that I deeply care about.
My work includes hand built sculpture for pedestal or wall using mid range white clay. I build my sculpture using slabs and coils. After each piece dries to the leather hard stage I pencil draw imagery onto the surface of the sculpture and carve in low relief. Later after the first kiln firing I apply stain to the carving which adds depth and dimension. I then fire the sculpture to it’s highest temperature. After which I apply china paint overglaze. China paints then require multiple low kiln firings to achieve their transparent watercolor effect.Website: firstname.lastname@example.org
