As part of my painting process, I continually collect from the northwest environments I explore. I often visit the Oregon coast during moody winter storms and roam the Willamette Valley in search of river reflections and forest silhouettes. I’ve lived in the high desert of Central Oregon and traveled through tall, sunlit mountain passes that open to the vastness of the Gorge.
I take these collected experiences, these patterns and colors, shadows and light, into the studio, transforming them into paintings that evoke meditations and memories, where viewers can contemplate their own connections. With additive and reductive painting techniques, I continually layer the surface with paint washes, transparent glazes and marks of pastel, creating both subtle texture and a luminosity in the work.Website: www.jenileeart.com
