I create images of ordinary people in everyday situations, but with a quirky, offbeat point of view. I develop ideas by making many quick, scribbly drawings until an interesting image/concept emerges. Then I play with the drawing and its title until I have what feels like the right balance of seriousness, silliness and ambiguity. This intuitive, spontaneous approach becomes much more constrained and precise when I begin to apply paint to the canvas.
I like my paintings to be peculiar, accessible, and thought-provoking. Imagery that is flat, cartoony and controlled suits my preference for edgy but droll humor.Website: www.alanrosestudio.com
