Beth Collins Artists Statement

I’m inspired to paint by the beauty found in nature, particularly the landscapes of Oregon. I love the challenge of a blank canvas, in choosing the colors, lines and contrast to communicate emotion and mystery. I’m drawn to the zing of complementary colors, the power of light against dark, the weight of lines and their ability to lead the viewer through a painting. What is beyond the road, what lies just over the horizon? These all pull me in and keep me coming back to the studio. There is always a challenge awaiting, always a need to push further, to expand my skills and stretch against my comfort level.

My works are currently at Fairweather House and Gallery, Seaside, OR, and in the Exchange Building as part of the “Looking In” show, now through April 30, 2015.

In 2014 I participated in the following shows and events:

Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts (Blue Ribbon Award)
Guardino Gallery, “Little Things” Show
Siren Nation “Natural Wonders” Show
Siren Nation “Kennedy School Art Sale”
Muse Gallery, “Looking Up” Show
Left Coast Artists Collective Holiday Show (at Mulnomah Art Center)

I am a founding member of the Left Coast Artists Collective, and Red Dot, Artists at Work, and a member of the Portland Art Collective.
