As a 501(c)3 non-profit our mission is to create educational opportunities for the public to witness and participate in the creative endeavors of working artists. In addition to the public tour we offer an Educational Internship program, the Apps for Schools program, and professional development events for artists.

Educational Internship
STUDENTS, Apply to be an intern here.
Portland Open Studios began an unpaid educational internship program in 2009 to connect local students with member artists. This program serves as a valuable window into a working artist’s studio-life and presents the potential for lasting, mutually-beneficial relationships between students and artists.

Interns work with the artist prior to the tour dates to develop an understanding of the artist’s medium. Often this can involve students creating their own projects or contributing to the artist’s work. Interns are then able to assist the artist during the Tour dates.

If you are a high school or college student interested in this opportunity, fill out this internship application. The application is open until all spots are filled. Apply by September 10th to have the best chance of working in your top choices of media, and the opportunity for more time with your artist.

Benefits May Include:

  • The opportunity to work with professional artists in their studios.
  • Potential to earn academic credit.
  • Valuable work experience for college application and resume.
  • Professional review of the student’s work and/or assistance in establishing an art portfolio.
  • Opportunity to earn a letter of recommendation from their mentor.
